It's well known that when Wiki was started it wasn't the most reliable source of information. anyone could just add information without checking the hard facts. But now since Wiki started as a complementary source project for Nupedia it has become a more credible source. I remember when I was a freshman in college and was constantly warned by professors to not use Wiki as a resource for any work. They saw it as a trap to getting false information. Although I do miss finding those fun and rare errors of the most out-of-pocket text when searching for Wikipedia blunders for example back in 2006 someone posted that Robbie Williams ate domestic pets in the pub for money. How ridiculous can it get... honestly a lot more but I won't go there. But now there are large companies like Pixar that use wikis for collaboration with clients and managing production on major projects.
